Olivia Bee interviews Joel Meyerowitz for Vice

THE YOUNG GUN MEETS THE LIVING LEGEND

Joel Meyerowitz was part of a group of pioneering photographers that revolutionized the art world 50 years ago by taking color pictures at a time when everyone thought serious photos had to be in black and white. Over his decades-long career, he’s proved himself to be a master of street, landscape, and portrait photography. He is 74 years old. Olivia Bee is one of our favorite new photographers, and we featured her work in our most recent photo issue. She is 18 years old. We thought it would be fun to see how two nonsequential generations of photographers would interact, so we had Olivia interview Joel about photography, life, art, and his massive, two-volume retrospective book, Taking My Time, which was just released by Phaidon.

Olivia Bee Collaborates with Hermès

We are so pleased to share one of  Olivia Bee’s most exciting collaborations to date. For their Autumn/Winter 2012 edition of their magazine Le Monde d’Hermès, French fashion house Hermès gave Olivia creative freedom to dream up a world of her own making—using the iconic Hermès silk scarf.

Hermès describes Olivia’s work in the most poetic way:

She has shot a bucolic tale of silk. In an enchanted landscape Olivia has cast her own spell on the Hermès scarf, now transformed into giant bows on the heads of pink-haired punk fairies, then a uni-horn for her horse or a silk kerchief for a thoroughly modern day Prince Charming.

The final results were magical.  Hermès loved the story so much it became the cover and a short film was commissioned. Stay tuned for the film, which is forthcoming.
